Wellness Wednesday - How to cure endometriosis with nutrition

This is a post aimed mostly at women. Sorry guys;) But if you have a wife or girlfriend who can benefit from this then read on!

These days every second woman suffers from endometriosis. In fact, most doctors immediately assume you have it, until they can prove that you don't! If you have no interest in falling pregnant then it likely won't even occur to you to go and find out if you DO have it. A lot of women just accept that they have really bad period pains and a really sensitive digestive system and that's just how it is but it's entirely possible that you actually suffer from endometriosis and fixing it, will cure all of that.

So, what is endometriosis?
It's a condition that occurs when the lining of the uterus, which is called the endometrium, grows beyond the uterine cavity. The most common place for endometrial lesions to occur is the lining of the abdominal cavity, which is called the peritoneum. Women with endometriosis suffer most commonly from pelvic pain, especially during their menstrual cycle. The pain can be excruciating and even a threat to your health because of excessive blood loss. Endometriosis is largely responsible for 50% of infertility cases. It also causes lower back pain, fatigue, digestive issues like constipation, diarrhea, pain when urinating and heavy or irregular periods.

All in all not a pleasant thing to have. The problem with a lot of women is that they don't really even think that they might have a condition. They just assume that they always have bad period pains and irregular periods. They'll also assume that they have food allergies instead of considering the possibility of endometriosis.

But why is endometriosis so common?
Sadly, for the same reason that cancer and heart disease are now so common. Endometriosis is caused, predominantly, by a bad diet. I've mentioned before how shockingly bad processes foods and conventional meats and vegetable produce are for you? Well, here is another reason to avoid all of those foods. Women are simply overloaded with hormones thanks to the rubbish in the food we eat and it manifests in things like endometriosis and infertility.

I discovered I had endometriosis and, in fact, an endometriotic tumour as a result of it. At the time I didn't know any better so I thought surgery was my only option. They managed to get rid of all of it but I was told that it would likely come back in a year! Thank GOODNESS I learnt a lot about food in that time and, because I started eating organic and cut out all processed foods and chemicals, I've managed to keep myself in "remission" for 2 years now. I doubt that it will ever come back, as long as I carry on eating the way I have been.

Therein lies the good news for those of you who thought you had no means of fixing yourself! You do:) The key to your health lies in the food you put into your body. Of course, if you've been reading my blog you will know that this applies to all of your ailments but, in this particular case, we are talking endometriosis. What can also make a big difference are some alternative remedies which you may have to open up your mind a bit to get your head around;)

Let's start with your diet:

  • Your first priority and what you absolutely need to focus on 100%, is getting rid of ANYTHING that is processed, made in a science lab, has a list ingredients that include anything with a code and that doesn't say free-range or organic. You can't really compromise here or you will only be cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  • Then you need to STOP buying into the whole "fat-free", skim-milk, no animal fat thing and start including healthy, nutritional, saturated fats in your diet again.
BUT!!
  • You MUST only buy, and eat, meat from pasture-fed, free-range animals or that fat will not be doing you any favours.
More specifically diet-wise:
  • Eat whole, natural foods.
  • Eat foods that will spoil (but eat them before they do!)
  • Eat naturally-raised meat including fish, seafood, poultry, beef, lamb, game, organ meats and eggs.
  • Eat whole, naturally-produced milk products from pasture-fed cows, preferably raw and/or fermented (like yogurt, raw butter, whole cheeses and fresh and sour cream)
  • Only use traditional fats and oils like butter and other animal fats (lard), extra virgin olive oil and the tropical oils (coconut oil and palm oil)
  • Eat organic, fresh fruits and vegetables, in salads and soups, or lightly steamed.
  • Eat properly prepared whole grains and nuts by soaking or sprouting to neutralize the phytic acid.
  • Include lacto-fermented vegetables, fruits and drinks on a regular basis.
  • Make your own bone broth from the bones of chicken, beef, lamb or fish and use them often in soups, sauces and stews.
  • Use herbal teas and avoid coffee
  • Only drink filtered or boiled water
  • Use unrefined sea salt or himalayan rock salt and non-irradiated herbs and spices to make your food taste good
  • Make your own salad dressing using raw vinegar and extra virgin olive oil
  • Use natural sweeteners like raw honey, maple syrup, and stevia instead of refined sugars
  • Avoid alcohol unless it's naturally fermented
  • Cook only in stainless steel, cast iron, glass or good quality enamel.
  • Only use natural supplements like FoodState.
What you can do aside from your diet:
  • Get lots of good sleep
  • Exercise daily and intelligently
  • Try to minimise stress in your life
  • Avoid taking conventional medication
  • Replace all your conventional beauty products with natural ones
  • The same applies to all your household cleaning products!
  • An alternative remedy is coffee enemas if you are brave enough to try them!
That's it! Seems daunting I know, but consider this: doing all of this will not only cure your endometriosis, but it will greatly reduce your risk of getting a dread disease, it will help you lose weight, it will likely cure any other ailments you might have, it will energise you and it will prolong your life.

Really seems like a no-brainer, doesn't it?
